Georgia Drivers License and State ID

Drivers License
You must have a valid (unexpired) drivers license to operate a motor vehicle in Georgia.  If you will be here for more than a year and find it necessary to travel off campus for your studies and other activities, you may want to apply for a Georgia drivers license from the DDS or Georgia Department of Drivers Services.

If you already have a valid driver’s license from your country, you may drive on this license for one year while you are in the U.S.  Georgia recognizes valid driver licenses issued to and held by residents of other countries as long as the “Out Of Country” license is valid and in English. If your license is not in English, you should be able to get an International License at home before you come to the U.S.  If you want to get a Georgia license, you will need to be registered in SEVIS and present the following documents:
  • Your current unexpired license
  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-94
  • Current I-20
  • Letter from a DSO in the Office of Global Engagement stating you are student at LaGrange College and where you reside
  • Social Security number or letter of denial

You will also need to pass the written and driving examination.  All of this can be completed at the DDS office in LaGrange
