International Student Admission

Increasing cultural understanding is valued at LaGrange College. In promoting that understanding, LaGrange College seeks to enroll an internationally diverse student body. The College serves as a host or home base institution for international visitors and has executed cooperative agreements with Seigakuin University in Tokyo, Japan; Study USA in Northern Ireland, the Methodist International Student Exchange Network (MISEN), among others.

LaGrange College is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. 
 
Undergraduate Application Procedure
Application Deadlines:  
May 15 for Fall Semester
October 15 for the Spring Semester.
 
An international student should submit the following items:
2. Official academic transcripts from all secondary schools (high schools) and, if applicable, post-secondary schools (colleges or universities) attended. Students applying through one of our exchange partners will only need their college or university transcripts.  Transcript(s) in languages other than English must include official, certified English translations, authentic verifying statements, and signatures. 
Note: LaGrange makes every effort to evaluate the transcripts of international students. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to obtain a certified evaluation of the transcript(s). If such an evaluation is required as part of the admission process, transfer of credit evaluation, or athletic eligibility certification process, the student must bear the cost of this professional evaluation. 
3. Students seeking admission whose first language is not English are required to submit one (1) or more of the following to prove English proficiency:
• minimum TOEFL score of 500 (173 computer-based, or 61 Internet-based);
• minimum IELTS score of 6
• certificate of completion of level 112 from the ELS Centers, Inc.;
• grades of "C" or better on G.C.E., G.S.C.E, or C.X.C. English examinations or equivalent tests;
• minimum SAT combined score of 900 with a minimum verbal score of 450;
• minimum ACT composite score of at least 19, with a minimum English sub-score of 18.

4. An affidavit of support and financial statements demonstrating the ability to pay the cost of attendance for at least one (1) year of study or a sponsor letter if another organization is underwriting the cost of attendance or if there is a cooperative agreement in place.  Students who are applying through one of our exchange programs and will be attending for one semester will need to show the ability to pay the cost of room and board and personal expenses for one semester.

International Transfer Students
International students who have earned a Baccalaureate degree or are transferring from a foreign institution should present an evaluated transcript from an approved foreign credentials service to the Registrar for evaluation.  Credit will be given for courses equivalent to our general education core requirements in which the student has earned a minimum grade of C-.  Below is a list of approved foreign credential evaluation services:
 
International Transfer-In Students from US Colleges and Universities
To transfer to LaGrange College from another U.S. college or university, a student must first apply and be admitted. They should then notify their current school's international office of their intention to transfer and discuss with their adviser and the LaGrange College Dean of Enrollment Management the date to transfer their SEVIS record to LaGrange College.  In most cases, the transfer out date will be the last day of the student’s final term or OPT at their current school.  LaGrange College cannot issue a new I-20 until the SEVIS record is transferred.
Enrollment Procedure
An international student will receive several forms with instructions once they are accepted into LaGrange College.  To acknowledge their decision to enroll at LaGrange College, the student must submit the following items:
• A record of immunizations, the completed Health Form, and a physician's statement, if necessary, must be sent to:

• An Enrollment Deposit equal to one semester’s tuition, fees, room and board, books and miscellaneous fees and expenses, less any financial aid which would be applied to the first semester of attendance should be directed to the Business Office.  Please contact Student Accounts for further information.
• Once the student's application has been approved and all required documents have been received, an I-20 will be generated by the Admission Office in SEVIS, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System which is managed by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The I-20 will be signed by the Vice President for Enrollment Management and mailed to the student so they can obtain the required F-1 student visa.
 
Orientation for international students is held on the Friday before classes begin.  All new international students are required to attend.  This date is entered as the Program Start date on your I-20. Upon arrival on campus, each student will meet with the Office of Global Engagement for an international student orientation; check in with the Office of Residential Education and Housing to receive their dorm keys; go to the IT Office to set up their email account, meet with an academic adviser to discuss the curriculum and to register for classes, and stop by the Business Office to finalize finances such as tuition, room and board and other fees.  You will receive an email to create your student ID and email account set up prior to your arrival.

International students interested in applying for our advanced degree programs will need to visit each graduate program for details on admission and application requirements, program costs, and their academic calendar.
